June 2021 Write Brain
Tuesday, June 15 at 6:15 p.m. via Zoom
Presented by Alex Jay Lore
We might not always judge a book by its cover, but some may very well judge an author by their web presence. Building an organic and effective online platform can be daunting, but this workshop will provide participants with a toolkit and how-to's to help create and grow your audience online. We will cover what an effective author website should look like and contain, how to manage social media without getting overwhelmed, and address other ways in which having a vibrant web presence can make your work so much easier rather than harder.
Alex Jay Lore is trans and non-binary author of queer science fiction and fantasy.
When not writing queerness with a chance of explosions, Alex is a high school English teacher, waging epic battles against comma splices, misused apostrophes, and anyone under the delusion that the singular ‘they’ is grammatically incorrect.
Alex still vividly remembers reading his first novel with LGBTQ+ protagonists in his early twenties. He began to write when he realized the best guarantee to see more books with queer characters was to create them. Alex cares deeply about social justice and wants to see diverse characters, including LGBTQ+ protagonists, in more than the stereotypical coming out story with inevitably tragic endings.
His science fiction debut, EMPIRE OF LIGHT, written as Alex Harrow, pitched as a Gay Firefly with magic, about an assassin who will set the world on fire to save the guy he loves, is out now with NineStar Press.
Alex currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with four cats, one very dramatic lizard, and what couldn’t possibly be too many books.
